Hello and welcome!

We’ve been busy lately.  Spesh yours truly.

My parents came to visit for Memorial Day weekend.  We attended Speed Street aka Trashfest 2010 – seriously.  It was gross.  But we got these amazing coke zero handles that attach to cans….cause yknow, I hate it when my hand gets cold from holding a can o’coke!  It works kinda like this but it’s red and weird lookin’:

Nice, huh?

On Sunday we went to Common Market (yum) for lunch and then to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which was actually pretty cool.   We had plans to trek to Asheville for the day on Monday but due to inclement weather (a monsoon, really), that didn’t pan out.  We watched movies all day – Knocked Up, A Mighty Heart, Inglourious Basterds.

Their visit was great, really.  It was only their second trip to the casa and we all enjoyed it.

On Tuesday Bethany was making her way from DC to Dallas and stopped for the night – we caught up on each others’ lives and ate some yummy sushi!

Wednesday included dinner at M5 with my JL small group and then to see SATC2.  It has to be said, every single preview at the movie was better than the actual movie.  It was horribly offensive in so many ways.  And all the same old shit.  Plus it should be called Old Sluts and the Retirement Home by now.  Jesus.

And now…for the piece d’resistance…. J is coming for a fantabulous visit and girls’ weekend!  I can’t wait!

I hope we get into trouble…

Hear yourself! (or, how your comments made me kill myself)

My two newest pet peeves in the English language.

“I know, right?”  or just, “Right?!”

Huh?  Yes.  Right.  That’s why I just said what I just said to make you say, “RIGHT?!” and sound like a Clueless cast member.  Or worse, Jersey Shore cast member.  Usually the convos go something like this.

“Mmmm, these cookies are so good.”
“I know, right?!”

Yes.  YES.  That’s why I JUST SAID IT.  Oy.  A simple “mmhmm” with your mouth full of cookies will suffice.

NEXT.

“Loves it.”  I know so many people guilty of this one.  As in, “hahahah that snowboarder just fell on her face.  Loves it.”

Who loves it?  Are you speaking in third person?  Like, Sharky loves it?  Or are you saying “I love it,” and adding a cutesy wutesy s?  Either way, I can’t tell you how annoying it is.  HATES IT.

May I have the language of origin, please?

I could not think of better definitions of my name, thanks UrbanDictionary.com!

Christa: v. undressing with the mind. “I just Christa’ed that girl up and down.”

Pull a Christa: v. To “pull a Christa” is to do something stupid but still look great while doing it.  “I fell down the stairs and bounced all the way down.  Love it when I pull a Christa.”

Christa: n. A bitch who hides behind Jesus and a smile, not to mention kickass thighs, mmm. “You stupid Christa, get outta my house if you’re not gonna put out!”

Twas revolutionary.

Wow, I don’t know how I didn’t see Revolutionary Road before tonight.  It’s simply great a great screenplay.

And it’s funny, because they essentially verbalized everything I’ve been trying to swallow lately.

I’m not destined to be anything special or extraordinary.  I’m not going to be someone wonderful.  And the best I can hope for is to just be happy.

And as much as this has always been one of my favorite quotes, I don’t think I truly understood it til now.

“This life is as close to life as you and I can ever hope to be.”–Philip Roth (an extraordinary man, though).

Sick of these boring period pieces.

The Other Boleyn Girl was the only good one I’ve seen lately.  I truly enjoyed that.  But I heart ScarJo and Natalie Portman, so maybe that had a lil something to do with it.  And Anne Boleyn rules.

Rented Becoming Jane through my free Netflix trial.  God, that was a snoozefest.  It didn’t even make me sad, and it’s a sad story!  Not Anne Hathaway’s best (although how can you really top The Devil Wears Prada?).  They uglied her up for the part.

I couldn’t even finish it.  Meh, whatever.  I know how it ends.  Let’s see what Kiera Knightley offers up in Pride & Prejudice.  Yes, it seems like I’m obsessed with Jane Austen, but I swear I’m not.  I don’t even really like her books.  Too repressed for my taste.

Also have Music &  Lyrics.  That should be a hoot.

Across the semi-crappy universe.

We watched Across the Universe last night.  I thought for sure I’d love it.  For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a musical with all Beatles songs.  A fine premise, no? You all know I’m a sixties kinda girl.  Flower child, that sorta thing.  Key words caught my eye when I read the synopsis.  Things like “Beatles,” “psychedelic,” “Vietnam War,” and of course “1960s.”

Um, SOLD!

I think it could have been way better, unfortunately.  I liked how they tied in character names (ie Jude, Lucy, Prudence) with Beatles songs, but it was way predictable.  So were the historical 1960s events….Columbia University, Detroit mobs, and natch the war.  It’s not terrible if you’re looking for an easy-to-follow plot, I just felt that it was lacking.
